Part of the Precambrian Shield, the rock formations of the
Georgian Bay were formed from molten lava millions of years ago. As time
passed, seas rose and fell, eroding the softer parts of the stone and creating
some of the most beautiful natural sculpture on the planet. The outer islands
of the Bay are constantly windswept, so the white pines which manage to gain
a toehold are also sculpted into tortured bonsai shapes, which are echoed in
the water when the wind drops to a murmur.
