Myrna

One of the few people portraits I've done, this is my cousin Myrna. For
a while during the 1990's, I played around with egg tempera, but eventually settled
on watercolour, acrylic and pastel as my main media, with occasional forays into
other media when my interest is captured, or for one reason or another the project
demands it.
People like to think of themselves as heroes of their own story. Frequently
an artist doesn't see them the same way, and the resulting image may not be as
flattering as the sitter might like. It's human nature to want to be immortalized
as perhaps a bit more attractive than nature intended, so the artist has to be
a diplomat as well as a skilled painter. For this reason, I prefer to paint
animals. They don't complain!
