My Mother's Garden

In the garden of the house where
I grew up, there were several tall trees, and every spring
the Lilies of the Valley would carpet the ground under their
branches. Whenever I smell the scent of Lily of the Valley,
it transports me back to the days of my childhood, and the
wonderful feeling of anticipation, looking forward to the long
hot days of summer.
Originally a commissioned piece, this painting became available for sale when
the client refused it. Subsequently it went missing for several years,
and recently turned up again. It is finished in a lush gold frame and
fillet, not unlike this page, but the matting is hunter green suede.
