Beverley J. Hanna - Original Coloured Pencil 'In a Pig's Eye'

In a Pig's Eye!

Medium: Transparent Watercolour and Coloured Pencil
Image Size: 14
" x 11"

When I first began entering juried art shows, I was pretty cocky. The first time I was rejected for a juried show, it was explained that my work was "too photographic".  The rejected piece, "Woodpile Snack", later went on to win awards, but the first time it happened I was shocked, too naive to realize that a jury is made up of people, and not everyone has the same tastes in art.

I created this piece to express how I felt about the jury's choices. The winning pieces are depicted hanging on the walls of the gallery. The following year, a piece of mine won an award in this same show, so you never can tell what will appeal.  It all depends on who is jurying and what they like.

One of these days, I would like to re-do this piece as an acrylic painting and make prints of it.
