Twice Shy
Medium: Computer-generated imaging
Image Size: 12" x 16"
While travelling through Northern Ontario, I passed through
an area that had been burned over the previous year. Even
though the area seemed at first to be completely desolate,
when I stopped to investigate, I saw that in fact, there
had been a lot of new little trees planted, and in among them
were wildflowers which had self-seeded after the holocaust. I
wanted to show both the devastation and rebirth with this image.
This digital collage is made up of several photos, and
some image manipulation in Photoshop to create the smoke. The
sky is from a photo of the California wildfires sent to me
by a friend, combined with a photo I took of the reforestation
area. I also included a butterfly, to illustrate how
delicate is the environment we live in.
