Born to be Wild

The first of this type of portrait I've done, this
style has proven to be very popular. This is
my Chocolate Lab, Harley, and if you are acquainted
with Chocolates, you likely know that they are the
"bad boys" of Labradors. It was my
intention to convey his supreme sense of himself. I've
often said he's like Tom Cruise in "Top Gun"...funny,
charming, wild, determined to get his own way, but
so cute, you can't help but let him get away with murder.
All too
often bred for looks rather than temperament, they tend to
be hyperactive and subject to many allergies. "Moose"
as he is affectionately known, is no exception. A puppymill
dog, he came to me at a year old, overweight and bald from
a thyroid condition, allergic to almost everything, and so
hyper that he had never had any training as no-one could control
him. After
five years with me, he's much healthier, but he still
has the attention span of a gnat and still hasn't
learned to heel. I
love him anyway.
