Another preliminary mock-up
for a painting.
There is a very old legend about a bride who hired a fiddler
for her wedding feast. The musician told her he was quitting
at midnight, for the next day was Sunday. As the witching
hour drew nigh, she found another fiddler to play into the early
hours of Sunday morning. Just before the dawn, the demon
fiddler turned all the dancers into standing stones. And
this, they say, is the origin of the rings of stone, or "dances" found
all across Europe and Great Britain.
