In the autumn when the leaves are turning, occasionally a beam of sunlight will spotlight a single leaf against the shadowed forest floor.  When that leaf is a yellow Sugar Maple leaf, it literally glows, in a last brave show before dropping to the ground to feed the next year's new growth.
