On the Bike Path

There is a walking trail near my
home where I often take my dogs to run. Part of a railway
line built in the 1800's to transport lumber, its rails were
taken up and it has now become a very a popular spot, with
people jogging, walking, biking and horseback riding along
its length of over twenty kilometres.
In the spring, it can get very muddy, and the tracks left by the various passersby
can make for some interesting patterns. Whenever I see them, I think
about the uncounted tracks and trails left by wild animals over the millennia
and how we are following in the footsteps of many more beings than the humans
who have gone before us.
